The Finsbury Park Calendar

Kasper de Graaf, 16 May 2019

The Finsbury Park Calendar is launched today with an ambition to provide a single place online to find out what is going on in the park. It helps promote not only the events and activities listed in the calendar, but the park itself as a place for all the people who use it. From charity runs to exhibitions, toddler cycle sessions and nature trails to concerts and fun fairs, the calendar will tell you what you can do (and even what you may want to avoid!)

Developed by 2NQ as a community resource, the Finsbury Park Calendar is published eleven weeks before Finsbury Park celebrates its 150th anniversary, with two weeks of civic and community events taking place in the first half of August. This forms part of a wider community-based arts and cultural programme running throughout 2019 and 2020 which already includes ‘Everything150’, a contemporary archaeology project curated by 2NQ in partnership with the Museum of London and a ‘People’s Platform’ of performances by local musicians and poets. The Finsbury Park Calendar, it is hoped, will support not only these events during the anniversary year but develop and improve over the longer term for the benefit of all park users.

Achieving the ambition of listing everything that goes on in the park will depend on the many groups, organisations and individuals who put on events and activities submitting them for inclusion in the calendar. 2NQ plans to roll-out an online event submission facility later in the year, and in the meantime organisers are asked to send details of all events and activities, no matter how big or small, long or short, to the 2NQ team at events@2nq.uk.

2NQ is a nonprofit community organisation set up to enhance and improve Finsbury Park as one of London’s original People’s Parks for its local community and all its users by design group Images&Co in partnership with Furtherfield, the art gallery located in Finsbury Park’s MacKenzie Pavilion. The organisation holds regular open meetings with community and faith groups in the three boroughs of Haringey, Hackney and Islington which are home to the community living around the park and its programme has already received funding support from Haringey.
